Coudron C.60 and VL Tuisku, Tranning Aircrafts

Two-seat training aircraft Coudron C. 60, produced in France from 1920 to 1930. The Finnish Air Force purchased 30 such vehicles and 34 more were produced under license in 1927-28, they were used until 1936. The Vantaa Museum presents a model with skis for winter use.

Dimensions of the aircraft: length 7.5 m, upper wingspan 10.24 m, lower 9.52 m, height 2.6 m, wing area 26 square meters. Empty weight 505 kg, maximum take-off weight 862 kg. The Clerget 9B engine is a 9-cylinder rotary-piston air-cooled 130 hp engine with a fixed pitch wooden screw. Maximum speed of 150 km/h, practical ceiling of 4000 m, flight time up to 5 hours.

Biplane VL Tuisku (snowstorm), a product of the Finnish aviation industry and Finnish development. The aircraft was developed at the state aviation plant Valtion lentokonetehdas (VL)under the supervision of chief designer Arvo Ylinen, had an innovative metal welded frame with a canvas skin. The first flight took place on January 10, 1934, but mass production began only a year later. In two years, 30 aircraft were built, they were used until 1949. In addition to training, there were also reconnaissance and marine modifications (on floats), some of the aircraft were bought by private individuals. The plane can not be called successful, 11 copies crashed, while 8 people were killed. Specifications: Length 9.35 m, Upper wing span 12.10 m, lower wing span 10.28 m, height 3.26 m, empty weight 990 kg, maximum take-off weight 1625 kg. The Armstrong Siddeley Lynx IVC engine is a 7-cylinder air-cooled radial piston engine with a power output of 215 hp, maximum speed of 207 km/h, cruising speed 170 km/h, range of 1.150 km (7 hours), practical ceiling 4,400 m (14,400 ft). On the military versions, a machine gun with a synchronizer of firing through the propeller and a machine gun in a ring turret in the rear cabin were installed. The museum presents an airplane with the inscription Sokeri-Sirkku on its side. This is the name of the sugar factory that bought it.
