Evening Peñíscola. Bridge of Love
The port pier is separated from the fortress by a small pond called Estany del Port, where the waters of the Font de Dins spring flow. The spring was discovered in 1578 and is located on the northern side of the St. Mary's bastion. This part of the wall, which was badly destroyed during the war with Napoleon, was recently restored.
Font de Dins was not included in my frame, as another fountain nearby, decorated with the Peñíscola coat of arms and a sea anchor, caught my attention.
At the St. Peter's Gate, a bridge spans the pond, on the railing of which you can see many castles. This is the so-called Bridge of Love, which can now be found in any city.
According to tradition, lovers hang fidelity locks on the railing, and throw the key into the water to be inseparable. However, recently locks are hung not only by romantic couples, but also some tourists celebrate their visit to this or that place in this way.
