Oppheim

The Vossestølen Hotel, where we spent the night, is located in the tiny village of Oppheim, so I took a few minutes to explore the surrounding area before leaving.

This place has been known since the sixties as a popular ski resort, there were two slopes with a height difference of 250 meters and a length of up to 2.5 kilometers, located on the slopes of the Bergshauden mountain. The ski season in these places starts in December and lasts until the beginning of May.

The Oppheimsheisen chairlift was built in 1962 and was the oldest operating chairlift in Norway at the time of its closure in 2019. Now it is of interest to fans of technical rarities. Other attractions here include the wooden church (Oppheim kyrkje), built in 1871.

The village is located on the shore of the picturesque Oppheimsvatnet Lake, which is 5 kilometers long and about 900 meters wide.

After the ski lift closes, Oppheim Hotels offer eco-tourism. Here you can rent a boat for fishing, there are hiking and cycling routes. Not far. In winter, hotels are also not empty, as the large Voss ski resort with 23 slopes at altitudes up to 964 meters is very close.
