Museo Histórico Militar, Valencia
Mentions of the Military History Museum are rarely seen in guidebooks, although this is one of the most interesting sites in the city. There are more than 10,000 exhibits here, including completely unique samples of weapons and military equipment that I have not seen in other museums, in particular rare Soviet machine guns from the Civil War, which few people know about even among Russian specialists, as well as a perfectly preserved copy of the Soviet T-26 tank. There are sections dedicated to communications, tactical medicine, uniforms, and equipment. On the second floor there are large-scale models of battles with thousands of miniature soldiers, as well as samples of battle paintings. At the same time, the entrance to the museum is completely free! Opening hours on weekdays and Saturdays are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sundays until 2 p.m., and Mondays are closed. The main disadvantage is that the museum closes for a two-hour siesta at 2 p.m. . I came across this museum quite by chance, two hours before the siesta, and I only had enough of them for a cursory inspection of about a third of the exposition. So if you are interested in military history, plan a visit either early in the morning or after lunch, or preferably the next day with a break.
