Church of Saint Onofrio, Sorrento
After walking another block along Corso Italia, I saw a small but amazingly beautiful church. Surprisingly, there is nothing about her in the guidebooks. The church is named after Saint Onofrio (Chiesa di Sant'Onofrio) and was built at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries outside the city walls. The facade of the temple has pronounced Rococo features, strongly influenced by the original architectural school of Lecce (Puglia). The facade is richly decorated with exquisite stucco and intricate decorative volutes. It should be noted that Rococo is rare in the vicinity of Naples. Around the left corner is the modern church of the Madonna of Lourdes parish, and the old church now belongs to this parish, which is why it is often mistakenly called Chiesa della Madonna di Lourdes.
