Plaza Ayuntamento, Peñíscola
After passing through the Fosc portal inside the fortress, you will find yourself on Plaza Ayuntamiento, where the Peñíscola Municipality building is located and this place is considered the official center of the city.
The square is absolutely tiny (like the city itself) and is a small shady corner with a fountain and an openwork cast-iron bench.
To the left of the City Hall there is an observation deck overlooking the Battery of St. Mary (Bateria de Santa María), which guarded the main gate of the city.
Going down the stone stairs, you can go to the gun platform of the battery.
Right below us is the Plaça de Bois with many Christmas market stalls.
A narrow alley separates the city Hall from the Church of St. Mary (Iglesia de Santa Maria) and here the Calle Mayor begins with lush vegetation on the balconies.
The town pleases with a huge number of flowering plants, despite the fact that it is now the end of December.
I've been in Spain for a week now, and with the exception of one cloudy day, it's always a real summer by our northern standards. Today, the air temperature is no less than +18 and local grandmothers bask in the soft winter sun.
