Church of Santa Maria at the Staircase, Ragusa

Ragusa's oldest church was founded by Cistercian monks in the thirteenth century. It is located at the top of the stairs leading from the New Upper Town to the old part (Ibla). That's why it got the name Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Scale. It is quite difficult to get inside, and even more so to take photos there, the church opens only during Mass. But during the service, an inspection of the interiors is prohibited, as the sign at the entrance clearly informs. At the end of the service, there are only a few minutes until the lights go out, which is a clear signal to vacate the room. I managed to walk around the church for no more than 10 minutes..
