Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Gela

The main street of the city connects the ancient part of the city with the modern one: it begins at the archaeological museum and excavations of the ancient Greek acropolis, passes through the historical center with Piazza Umberto 1 and ends at the public garden Villa Comunale, also known as Villa Giuseppe Garibaldi. In addition to the old churches and historical buildings, there are many shops and restaurants on the street. It is a favorite place for walking and shopping. In my opinion, the local public is not very happy with tourists and does not like cameras very much. On Corso Vittorio Emanuele, a passerby demanded that I not take pictures and put the DSLR in my bag. The reason for this is simple - Gela has long been under the influence of criminal gangs and is known for bloody skirmishes between them. The owners of the house where I stayed in Ragusa were dubious about my idea of visiting Gela. So if you get there, be very careful and careful!
