Heredia Pasaje, Malaga
The shopping mall, built in the first half of the 19th century in the likeness of Parisian department stores, is located on Constitution Square. Some architectural historians consider it the first building of this type in Spain. The initiator of the construction was the pioneer of industrialization Manuel Heredia. In 1836-1837, the industrialist bought the building of the old city prison and the chapel of Santa Lucia near Constitution Square and erected a large commercial center in their place.
In 2011, most of the building was demolished, and a new one was built in its place. It was done so quickly that the public did not have time to react. As a result of the greed of the developer and corruption in the city council, the unique historical site was lost. Now only the facades and the first floor with colonnades, where shops were located, remain from the original appearance.
