Messerschmitt Weinhaus, Bamberg
At the end of the Lange Straße, on Schönleinsplatz square, is one of the most interesting buildings in the city - the Messerschmitt Weinhaus wine house. Its history goes back to 1422, when the river skipper Messerschmitt brought a barrel of wine from the banks of the Main and began to sell it. Business went on, and later a wine shop was opened, and then a tavern.
Over the years, the wine shop has gained an impeccable reputation and has become popular. In 1832, a new building was built, with a hotel and restaurant.
The three-storey house, decorated with stucco molding in the Baroque style, is now one of the most beautiful buildings in the city.
The Messerschmitt Hotel has been repeatedly visited by famous people - German ministers and chancellors, prominent clergy, members of aristocratic families from different countries, as well as other celebrities of the past and present.
In June 26, 1898, the Messerschmitt family had a son, Willy, who was attracted to the idea of flying by air from childhood. In his youth, he was a well-known aircraft modeler in Bamberg. In the storeroom at the back of this house, the future famous aircraft designer made his first gliders and planes.
Next to the hotel, an unusual advertising column from the Wanka Tonka fashion house attracts attention.
