Frederiksborg, Slotssøen Lake
The castle is built on three islands of the large lake Slotssøen (Slotssøen - palace lake). The lake is a depression formed by a glacier and filled with the waters of the small river Teglgårdså. The first mention of a settlement on this site dates back to 1275, when a farm was built on one of the lake's islands. The island (holm) was initially named Hilda Ruth, which later transformed into Hillerødsholm.Over time, a mill was built at the farm, the millstones of which were driven by a water wheel. For this purpose, a dam was built, the lake level rose by 2.5 meters, significantly increasing its area. In the twentieth century, no one was engaged in the lake, it began to overgrow and silt up. In the early 90s, a tourist boat was thoroughly cleaned and put on it. The boat departs from Torvet Square, from the very center of Hillered. Water walks on the lake are held from May to September..
