The gate of San Antonio (Portal de Sant Antoni i la Creu) and the Church of San Antonio.Lawrence (Iglesia de San Lorenzo)
Gates San Antonio (Portal de Sant Antoni on the map) was the main city portal and got its name from the mercederian monastery located opposite,on the site of which the garden of the same name is now located.
The current Baroque appearance of the gate was obtained in 1737, when it was decorated with the coat of arms of Philip V surrounded by lions, under which the coat of arms of Tarragona is depicted. On the sides of the arch are bas - reliefs of war trophies, made in Romanesque style.
Outside the gate, against the wall of a small courtyard-garden, you can see an ancient spring.
Go two dozen meters, we will get to the Square of the Old slaughterhouse, at the bottom of which is the Church of St. Nicholas.Laurentia (Iglesia de San Lorenzo on the map), built in 1362 on the site of the old Romanesque Basilica. This is the only purely Gothic building that has survived in Tarragona, but most of it became the basis for a four-story residential building built around the bell tower.
Now the top of the bell tower is a small tower on the roof of the house. On the left is the Cathedral tower, and on the right you can see the solar collector used to get hot water. Such devices are very popular in Spain.
