Monastery of the Carmelites Fathers (Convent dels Pares Carmelites)
The Carmelites Fathers monastery (Carmelites Convent dels Pares map) belongs to the mendicant order of the so-called "barefoot Carmelites" - of course, separated from the main branch in the 16th century. The monks of the Order adheres to the strict principles of the original Charter. There are both male and female monasteries.
The building was constructed in 1896 by architect Pau Monguió i Segura. The four-storey building built of brick and faced with artificial stone. This is one of the first experiences of application of such material. The interiors of the Baroque have been almost destroyed during the Civil war.
The Neo-Gothic spire was added in 1918 by a student of Gaudi Josep Jojola (Josep Maria Jujol i Gibert). The acute form of turrets, capitals, finials visually increase the height of the building. These items the author borrowed from the Northern Gothic, they almost never occur in Spain.
