Capella de Sant Magí
After passing under the arch to the right of the old slaughterhouse, we will find ourselves on the narrow street portal del carro (Carrer Portal del Carro), at the end of which isCapella de Sant Magí on the map.
According to legend, Saint Magi was one of the first Christian preachers in Tarraco, for which he was put in irons and thrown into prison. One night an angel came to him, broke his chains, and opened the prison doors. After that, Saint Maciej left the city and went into seclusion in one of the caves, where he spent 30 years, until he was found by Roman soldiers, taken to Tarraco and executed at the city gate. In the middle Ages, new walls were built, and the gate was inside the city. The facade of the chapel of St. Magi rearranges a part of the old Roman wall with a portal, between which and the new wall in 1778 was opened a small chapel. According to legends, springs with healing water were formed from the blows of the Saint's staff. This legend became the theme of the main city festival, where citizens pour water on each other. The feast of San Magi is held in Tarragona in mid-August.
