Reus. St. Peter's Church (Iglesia Prioral de San Pedro)
A block from Mercadal square is the main temple of the city of Reus — the Church of St. Peter (Iglesia Prioral de San Pedro on the map), the silhouette of which is one of the symbols of the city.
The first documentary information about the Church in Reus dates back to 1159, where the Church of Santa Maria is mentioned, belonging to the diocese of Tarragona Archbishop Bernard Cake.
In 1330, the Church was expanded, and at the beginning of the 15th century it received the name of Saint Peter, the patron Saint of the city.
On June 29, 1543, the new temple was consecrated, but the temple continued to be completed for more than half a century - in 1566, a tower-bell tower with a height of 62 meters was erected, 1569 the temple was opened to the public. In 1694, the chapel of the Holy Communion was opened.
Now let's get acquainted with the interior of the Church.
