Oropesa del Mar Old Quarter

The fortress of Oropesa was founded by the Arabs in the 11th century and a city with a maze of narrow streets appeared at its walls over time. Its atmosphere has been preserved to this day, and walking through the old quarter, you are transported to the Moorish era. There are many buildings made of natural stone with bars in small windows, streets and stairs are also paved with stone. In addition to the already mentioned fortress, there is an 18th-century parish church (Capella de La Verge de la Paciència), in the old town hall (Casa Consistorial), now there is a museum that offers an interesting interactive exposition about the history of the town. Also, don't forget to visit the museum of playing cards and the old prison. The modern era is represented by original street sculptures. The old quarter is located on a hillside and its terraces offer beautiful views of the surrounding area.
