December evening in Castellon de la Plana
From Paza de la Olivera, I headed east to Plaza de Clavé, then along the Carrer de Sant Lluís, and in five minutes I was at Plaza Aulas. Here is the palace of the Chamber of Deputies of the province of Castellon (Diputación Provincial de Castellón).
There are several sculptures of various styles on the square. In 2006, a sculpture of Jose Miguel Mas Valls Boy with a Frog (Niño con rana) was installed here. The artist works in the field of environmental education. Here he depicted a boy who saw a frog at the fountain and carefully carries it to a safe place. Another sculpture by this author, Boys with a chick, is installed next to the Trinity Church (Iglesia de la Trinidad).
Nearby you can see the creation of the famous Valencian sculptor Juan García Ripollés called "Temptation" (La tentación). The author depicted Eve with an apple of sin and a disproportionately large head. The 1215 kg sculpture, created in 2010 for the Urban Universe exhibition, has been shown not only in Spanish cities, but also in Estoril, Paris, and Cannes. I saw this statue in Seville in the spring, opposite the Cathedral of Santa Maria. There are several other sculptures by this author in the city. I must say that Castellon is incredibly rich in urban culture, there is even a special Sculptural route.
From Plaza Aulas, I went towards the center of Calle Mayor, decorated with Christmas lights.
This is one of the main shopping streets of the city, as well as several buildings in the Valencian Art Nouveau style. Tomorrow we will examine it in detail in the light of day.
Castellon de la Plana finished his first guided tour at Plaza Mayor, its main square since the city's formation.
I was in Castellone on the penultimate day of December and the square was decorated for Christmas.
Plaza Mayor is home to the main historical buildings of the city, included in the list of Cultural Heritage of Spain: El Fadri Tower, St. Mary's Cathedral, Old Exchange, city Hall. We'll get to know them in detail tomorrow.
