North-Eastern Quarters of Barceloneta
The streets adjacent to the sea are not distinguished by the art of architecture, mostly gloomy multi-storey buildings of dull colors.

Around the square of the poet Bosca (Boscà Poet Plaça), the appearance of houses changes, there are richer houses here.

The era of Catalan modernism (Art Nouveau) has not spared Barceloneta.

Many of the facades are decorated with stucco ornaments depicting vegetation and intricate cast-iron balcony grilles.

There are walls decorated in the sgraphito technique.

This facade is given a zest by ornaments made of ceramic tiles.

The square's northern border runs along the Carrer de la Maquinista, a name reminiscent of Barceloneta's industrial past.

Here I went to eat at a cafe with pleasant prices. There were a lot of such places on my way, but all of them were closed for Christmas. The food is no frills, but quite good. The owners, a Chinese family, are friendly with visitors, it is clear that they are frequent guests here. Barceloneta is the most diverse and democratic area of the city.

The Carrer de la Maquinista ends at an arched gate, this portal was built in 1856 and served as the main gate of the Maquinista Terrestre y Marítima factory, the largest enterprise in Barceloneta, which emerged as a result of the industrial revolution of the mid-19th century. The enterprises were closed during the preparation for the 1992 Olympic Games, and now part of the former factory's workshops is occupied by the Salvat Papasseit Institute.

Just beyond the archway is the world-famous green square of Pompeu Gener.

The square is surrounded by a residential complex built in 1988 on the site of old factory workshops.

From the north, the residential complex is adjacent to the Campus del Mar, built in 2002.

The University's student community and Miresibilbao - Residencia Universitaria Hostel are located here .

Finally, I took a walk through the quiet and green Carrer de Balboa, where you can see the Neo-Gothic facade of the main entrance of the Escola Sant Joan Baptista.
