Valencia. Carrer De La Blanqueria Promenade
From the ChurchEl Salvador and Saint Monica on the ancient Serranos bridge (Puente de Serranos on the map) I'm going back to the right Bank of the city. Ahead is the main gate of medieval Valencia - Torres de Serranos.
I have already met them during my first visit to Valencia in may 2013, so I turn to the right and continue my walk along the promenade that runs along the Turia gardens. There is a small winding pond with fountains and several sculptures.
Salón de Racionistas ("hall of rations" on the map it was built in 1886 in the style of eclecticism and historicism by the famous Valencian architect joaquín María Arnau Miramón (1849-1906). The building was commissioned by the Gran Asociación Domiciliaria de Nuestra Señora de los Desamparados, a charity Dedicated to distributing food aid to families of the unemployed. The facade with a semicircular arch is made of red brick, the hall itself has a tiled roof supported by steel trusses. This was one of the first experiments with the use of metal as a building material. Another famous creation of Miramor - Casa Sancho on the Carrer de La Pau.
When we reach the bridge of San Jose (Puente de San Jose), we will see the Column of the virgin Carmen (Virgen del Carmen on the map).
The bronze sculpture was made by Ramin Mateu Montesinos in 1967. The monument is located in front of the monastery of Saints Jose and Teresa (Convent de sant Josep i de santa Teresa).
Here I finished my morning route through new year's day Valencia, and went to my pension to have lunch.
The blank walls of the Carmen district are sometimes enlivened by bright and cheerful wall paintings.
And cats on narrow old streets are not forbidden to sit on the hoods of cars.
Another of the numerous churches of the old town, which was incorporated into a later development.
