History of Zaragoza Fire Department
Adjacent to the courtyard is a hall dedicated to the history of the Zaragoza fire Department.

The first volunteer fire fighting squad was founded in 1843.

In 1930, the team became fully professional.

This is the evolution of firefighter equipment over the past century.

А эти костюмы предназначены для особых случаев.

A large photo shows the fire of the Corona de Aragón hotel (now Meliá Zaragoza) on July 12, 1979, in which 83 people were killed. The fire was the result of a terrorist attack by ETA militants against a meeting of the francoist leadership held in the hotel.

The old control room of the Zaragoza fire Department. Now, of course, the technical equipment is quite different. In a city with a population of more than half a million, there are four fire stations, and rescuers make about 25 emergency exits a day. But only 30% of them are related to fire, the rest are related to road accidents and other emergencies. On a large monitor hanging on the wall, the history of departures is displayed in real time, and I must say that a considerable part of them are during the day, including at night. That is, the expression "sleeping like a fireman" to saragos firefighters is hardly appropriate.

Finally, I went up to the upper gallery of the courtyard.

Despite the fact that the building of the former monastery has been rebuilt several times over the past two centuries, the courtyard has remained unchanged since the 17th century.
