Taormina. Corso Umberto I, Western part
After exploring the square on April 9, I passed under the arch of the Middle Gate (Porta di Mezzo), also known as the Clock Tower (Torre dell'Orologio).
This is the oldest part of Taormina, with many medieval buildings, as well as a huge concentration of souvenir shops.
The natural stone building number 185 is occupied by the Association of Carabinieri(Associazione Nazionale Carabinieri). An exhibition hall is located in the former church, where photos show the history of this law enforcement organization. Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get there.
.The narrow side streets are also endless exhibitions of various products of local craftsmen, mainly ceramics.
Some alleys were occupied by artists.
At one of the walls, I saw the wheel and musical mechanism of the traditional Sicilian carriage Karettu, which I described in a separate article.
Then the Pinocchio store caught my attention. The character of the fairy tale Carlo Collodi, written in 1833, is now known all over the world.
Here you will find all kinds of wooden toys and souvenirs.
