Zacco Palace, Ragusa
At the corner of Corso Vittorio Veneto and Via San Vito is a beautiful Baroque mansion, recognized as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage site. It was built in the second half of the 18th century by Baron Melfi di Antonio (Multi di S'Antonio), the coat of arms of this family can be seen on the recesses of the building framed by accanta leaves with putti figures. The ground floor has several small round-shaped windows, and the main portal is framed by Corinthian columns. The second floor is decorated with six balconies in the style of Sicilian Baroque, lying on beams with grimacing masks at the ends. At the end of the 12th century, the Zakko family bought the palace, and the house has been named after it ever since. The building houses the Museum of the peasantry and also hosts temporary exhibition.
