Reduit of the Sternwarte Bastion, Kaliningrad

One of the Western bastions of the Konigsberg fortification ring was named "the Observatory" (German: Sternwarte). Such a far-from-military name is explained simply - the fortification was built in 1860 near the Friedrich Bessel Observatory, where the great German mathematician and astronomer made detailed maps of the starry sky, which were used until the advent of satellite navigation.

To this day, only the inner part of the Bastion has been preserved, a small but powerful fortification (Reduit), where the garrison was sheltered in case of an enemy breakthrough into the Bastion territory.

The upper part of the fortifications is densely overgrown with bushes.

Однако, обходяфортификацию по периметру, я обнаружил в боковых воротах открытую калитку.

И оказался во внутреннем дворе, где бегали дети с пейнбольной амуницией.

Редюит состоит из двух массивных зданий - полукруглого, внешние стены которого имеют только бойницы, собственно это и есть редюит.

С вогнутой стороны находится прямоугольное здание,где, видимо, размещалась казарма, и ворота подъемного моста.

Ров, конечно же, давно засыпан и никакого моста нет, о нём напоминают только сохранившиеся вворот ролики, через которые перебрасывались подъемные цепи.

В казематах редюита обосновался пейнтбольный клуб.

Под старыми стенами устроено место для "боёв".

With a straightforward "fortifications" of the barrels and strictly "Wartburg". There is even a kind of Pillbox with an embrasure.

At one of the walls of the courtyard, you can see a field kitchen and a relic BTR-60 covered with a tarp.

The Reduit is declared a regional architectural monument and is under state protection.
