Blugold Marching Band at the walls of the Colosseum
On this day, apparently on the occasion of the Epiphany, the authorities of Rome pleased the residents and guests of the city with a March and show of the marching wind group Blugold.
The orchestra was created at the University of Wisconsin more than fifty years ago by Robert GANTNER, who for a long time was its first Director.
At first, it was a student ensemble that performed in the summer at public and sporting events as a marching band, and turned into a concert collective in the winter.
In 1968, the University administration paid attention to the band, took over the provision of instruments and provided a rehearsal base. In addition, students of instrumental specialties of the University's music Department were required to take part in the orchestra.
В начале 70х годов оркестр под руководством Дональда Джорджа насчитывал уже 120 музыкантов.
At the end of the twentieth century, the band went through a difficult period - the University management cut funding, and many music majors were closed. By 2000, the orchestra consisted of only 60 people, of which only one was a student of the appropriate profile, the rest of the participants studied other disciplines and were just Amateurs.
Since the beginning of the new Millennium, the collective has gained a second life, the participants have received new tools, as well as updated appearance - uniforms and accessories. In addition to musicians, the group included dancers.
To date, the number of members of the Blugold Marching Band is 300 people. The energetic style of performance is popular not only with the audience, but also attracts students of non-musical specialties to the group.
The orchestra is actively touring, this is not its first performance in Rome.
PS Noticed that the group is only white, and there are no Hispanics or African - Americans in sight.
