Ponte de Dom Luís I, Porto

The steel arch bridge over the Douro River was built in 1886 by Teófilo Seyrig, a student of the genius Gustave Eiffel. The bridge was named after Louis I of Portugal, a ruler who was not very successful and popular, since the construction was carried out during his reign. The name of the king and the German bridge engineer usually disappears from the minds of tourists, and the iron bindings remind many of the Eiffel Tower structures, which is why the structure is often referred to as the "Eiffel Bridge".
