Avenida da República, Faro
Most visitors to the main city of the Algarve province begin to get acquainted with it from this street, because all the tourist and transport infrastructure is located here. At the beginning of the Avenida is a triangular square with an obelisk erected in 1907 in honor of the famous Faro native Ferreira d'Almeida (1847-1902), politician and Minister of the Sea of Portugal. The author of the monument is Adolf Hausmann. This place can be considered the center of the city.
The Avenida starts at the harbor for boats and yachts, on its shore there is a pavilion with tourist information, boat tours to the Ria Formosa Nature Park and to the sea to meet dolphins are also sold here, they are the main tourist highlight of Faro. On Bergu Harbour is Eva senses, the city's largest hotel. Behind the hotel, in the former port Authority building, is the Maritime Museum (Museu Marítimo Almirante Ramalho Ortigão).
An electric car can be rented near the tourist office.
The Avenida Republica runs towards the train station, which is located two blocks away from the Eva Hotel, and just behind the hotel is the bus station (Terminal Rodoviário). On the right side of the street, there are several shops selling souvenirs and leisure supplies.
