Pamplona. Church of the Miraculous Medallion (Iglesia de La Milagrosa)
In 1915, the Misia of the congregation of the Daughters of Charity appeared in Pamplona.(Hijas de la Caridad). In 1922, the Bishop of Pamplona gave permission for the Foundation of the community, and in 1927, the construction of a large complex, including a Church, College and Seminary, began.
The building was designed by the famous Pamplona architect víctor Eusa. The Church was completed a year later, and consecrated in the name of the Miraculous Medallion (Iglesia de la Milagrosa on the map).
On the night of July 18, 1830, Catherine Laube, a nun of the congregation of the Daughters of Charity, awoke to hear the voice of a child calling her to the chapel located on Rue du BAC in Paris.
Then she commissioned a nun to make a Miraculous medallion with the image of the virgin. A year later, the Daughters of Charity began mass production of medallions based on Catherine Laube's designs and their distribution in Paris, which was hit by a cholera epidemic. It is believed that after this death rate went down and since then medallions are considered miraculous and called "Miraculous", or "Medallion of the Immaculate conception". Catherine Laube was canonized in 1947.
The Church is one of the largest modern religious buildings in Navarre.
The walls are decorated with frescoes by contemporary artists.
Thanks to the curved arch, the room is very bright.
The imposing spire, surmounted by the figure of the blessed virgin, is visible from all parts of Gord.
Two years after the opening of the Milagros temple, the construction of the Seminary and College buildings adjacent to The Church was completed. The Grand opening took place on July 18, 1930, on the centenary of the miraculous phenomenon.
