Villa Floridiana Park (Parco di Villa Floridiana)

In June 1815, the King of the Two Sicilies, Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, bought the estate of Prince Giuseppe Caracciolo of Torelli (Giuseppe Caracciolo di Torella), which occupied a vast territory on top of the Vomero hill. The king commissioned the architect Antonio Niccolini to reconstruct the estate, and in 1817-1819 a neoclassical palace was built here, surrounded by a romantic park. Under the leadership of the director of the Botanical Garden of Naples Friedrich Dehnhardt, about 150 plant species were planted in the park. The king gave the villa to his second wife Lucia Migliaccio (Lucia Migliaccio di Puttana), who came from the ducal family of Floridia, who gave this name to the estate.
