Museum of Modern Religious Art

One of the wings of the monastery of Santa Maria la Nova is occupied by a very peculiar exhibition of works by avant-garde artists and sculptors dedicated to religious themes (Museo d'arte Religiosa Contemporanea). Completely unique in its kind, the museum was opened in 2006 on the initiative of the association "Oltre il Chiostro onlus", which can be translated as "Outside the walls of the monastery". The purpose of the association is defined as "mutual knowledge beyond ideological and religious barriers, taking into account mutual differences and on the common path of the search for truth." The museum presents 113 works by 79 artists, the earliest exhibit is dated 1949. The museum is open daily from 9:30 to 15:00 on weekdays, until 14:00 on Saturday and Sunday. Ticket price 3.50 euros.
