Casa Grego, Tortosa
On the Place Verge de la Sinta (Placa Verge de la Sinta), sometimes called the Cathedral (Placa Cathedral) There is one of the best houses in Tortosa in the Catalan Art Nouveau style - the House of Grego (Casa Grego), sometimes also called Casa Pilar Fontanet.
The building was built in 1908 by the Catalan architect Pau Montguió i Seguro, who is already familiar to us as the author of the municipal slaughterhouse. The house stands out with a large number of curved elements, and the symbol of modernity is not forgotten - the letter "omega", the features of which are guessed in the design of the extreme windows of the upper floor.
In the design of the facade, the architect used the traditional decor for the last period of Art Nouveau - stucco decorations and ornaments in the sgraffito technique depicting flowers and other vegetation.
Another distinctive feature of this style is wooden loggias with curly windows, as well as openwork metal grilles of balconies. On the right, a narrow abandoned building adjoins Grego's house, the balconies of which are decorated with paintings depicting townspeople in 18th-century clothes
