Museo del Mare of Ischia. History, Opening Hours

The Sea Museum of Ischia Island (Museo del Mare) is located in the "Clock tower" (Torre dell’ Orologio on map), a block from the bridge leading to the Aragonese castle.

The idea of creating a Museum belongs to a group of Maritime history lovers who decided to collect their collections under one roof and make them available to the general public. The municipality met the enthusiasts halfway by allocating the old town hall building to the enthusiasts. The exhibitions were designed by the collectors themselves and their volunteer assistants. The Museum was opened on December 19 1996.

The Museum is open seven days a week from 10: 30 to 12: 30 and from 15: 00 PM to 19: 00, in July and August from 10: 30 to 12: 30 and 18: 30 to 22: 00, from November to March: from 10: 30 to 12: 30, in February the Museum is closed.

The sea atmosphere begins right at the door - here is a mock-up of the cabin of a small fishing vessel.

The walls are hung with attributes of sea romance.

The display case with souvenirs (by the way, original and inexpensive) is a niche in the wall, closed by the copper frame of the window of the ship's superstructure.

After buying a ticket, the price of which turned out to be quite symbolic-2 euros, I go up the stairs, on the walls of which there are a lot of various items related to the sea-from postcards to a radio direction finder antenna.
