Boulevard Franklin D. Roosevelt, Luxembourg

This is the most beautiful boulevard in the city, it starts at the Pont Adolphe and ends at the La Passerelle viaduct, better known as the Old Bridge (Al Bréck). On its left side there are such famous objects as the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Palace of Justice, the Luxembourg Casino. The right side overhangs the Parc de la Pétrusse National Park and is an excellent observation deck. In the middle part of the boulevard stands a granite obelisk in memory of the victims of the First World War. The obelisk is crowned with a gilded statue of a woman with a wreath in her hands, so the residents of the city call the monument "The Golden Lady" (Gëlle Fra). The boulevard was built in the seventies of the nineteenth century on the old fortifications of the bastions and was named "Boulevard du Viaduct" (Boulevard du Viaduc). On April 23, 1945, the boulevard was renamed and named in honor of the 32nd President of the United States of America, Franklin D. Roosevelt, as a sign of gratitude for his contribution to the Allied victory over Nazi Germany.
