Peykhane Caddesi

The Artemis Old City Hotel, where I rented a room on a very budget, is located on Peykhane Street, which begins in the southwest corner of Sultanahmet Square, also known as Hippodrome Square. The street leads to Çemberlıtaş Square, its length is only about 300 meters, but there are many inexpensive hotels and restaurants on it, as well as a couple of historical monuments. The place is very good for accommodation, as all the sights of Sultanahmet are within walking distance. In the middle part of the street is the Fuad Pasa Mosque, built in the 19th century on the ruins of an older mosque mentioned in 1477. In the block to the north there is a cistern dating back to the era of the Roman emperor Theodosius II (Theodosius Cistern, Şerefiye Sarnıçı), its construction was carried out from 422 to 443, at the corner of Peykhane and Divan Yolu you can see the mosque of Köprülü Mehmet Pasha (Köprülü Mehmet Paşa Cami), opened in 1661.
