Louise-Michel Square, Paris

The journey to Montmartre usually starts from the Anvers metro station, up Rue de Steinkerque. At the end of the street you will find yourself in a small square with many souvenir shops and the world-famous carousel in the style of the Belle Epoque (Carrousel de Saint-Pierre). The stairs leading to the Sacré Coeur Basilica begin here through a cascading park with scenic paths and terraces. On the last terrace there is a monumental fountain with a swimming pool, created by the French sculptor Paul Gasq in 1932 and bearing his name (Fontaine Paul Gasq). The upper terraces and staircases offer one of the most recognizable and romantic views of the rooftops of Paris. If you are too lazy to walk, there is a funicular station to the left of the carousel..
