Kalervo House. Helsinki
Opposite the Sibelius School, on the corner of Liisankatu and Mariankatu, there is a large five-story Late Art Nouveau house named after Kalervo, one of the heroes of the Karelian-Finnish epic. In fact, this was the name of the store, which was located on the first floor and eventually became known as the whole house.

The building was built in 1908 by Heikki Kaartinen. The lower floor is intended for commercial use, while the remaining floors are occupied by apartments.

The facade is decorated with semicircular bay windows and a rectangular corner tower. Geometric ornaments are more typical of the Art Deco style, but these are features of northern Art Nouveau.

In 1934, the house underwent reconstruction, the stove heating was replaced with central heating, and elevators were installed in the entrances. In 1972, a sauna was installed in the basement of the house.
