Historic circ Raluy in Port Vell
At the northern end of the Mole de la Fusta embankment in the spring of 2015, a bright circus town with a tent-tent was located, which were an invariable attribute of fairs a hundred and more years ago. The idea to revive this wonderful tradition belongs to Catalan acrobats Luis Raluy Iglesias (1911-1984) and his wife Marina Tomás Jorba (1921-2013). In the fifties, they worked as part of the Los Keystone circus troupe, their joint number Hombre bala (bullet man) brought them great fame in Europe, Asia and Africa. In 1960, the couple created their own business, teaming up with Circo de Brasil, they successfully toured Africa and Asia, where their props were destroyed during a typhoon. In 1972, the couple bought Circo París de Portugal in Lisbon, founding the Circo Alabama troupe, in 1975 the troupe moved to Spain, where it began performing under the name Circ Ringland in the format of a traveling circus tent, in the 80s-90s the troupe worked on the islands of the Caribbean basin. The couple had four children who also followed in their parents' footsteps. In 1984, Raul Iglesias died, after which the older sons Luis and Carlos began to manage the troupe, and the younger Eduardo and Francis founded their own Circo Williams. In 1995, the troupe returned to Spain, under the name Circo Raluy, where Carlos had the idea of a chamber circus built on traditional numbers and entourage of the early 20th century. One of the elements of the image were rare trucks and buses, on which the troupe roamed from city to city. In summer, the circus went on tour, and in winter gave performances in Barcelona. In 2016, the troupe split up again, forming Circ Històric Raluy (Historical Circus Raluy) under the direction of Carlos and Circ Raluy Legacy under the management of Louis. In 2019, Carlos' daughter acrobat Rosa Raluy created her own troupe called Circo Teatro Rosa Raluy. In 2020, Carlos Ralui died and the circus was headed by his younger brother Francis for several months. Then he, together with his nephew Sandro Raluy and the clown Sandro Roque, created a new project Circo Raluy Classic, and Circ Històric Raluy was inherited by Rosa Raluy, who currently directs it.
