Zaragoza-Calatayud. The landscapes of the West of Aragon
After buying a bus ticket to Calatayud, I went up to the gallery of the Delicias train and bus station (Estación Intermodal de Zaragoza-Delicias).
Zaragoza is the largest transport hub in the Eastern part of Spain, connecting Madrid with Catalonia and the Basque Country. High-speed trains of international lines pass through Zaragoza.
My route took me along the A-2 (autovía del Nordeste) Zaragoza-Madrid highway, which stretched through the most arid and hot area of Europe - The Aragonese desert.
Summer temperatures here rise to +50 Celsius, and there is no rain for months.
But even in these conditions, people manage to engage in agriculture here.
Closer to the West, vegetation is becoming more abundant, and Atlantic moisture is already reaching here.
The Helon river valley is a real oasis.
